MAC To The Beach: Breaking Waves and Hearts - Makeup and Beauty Blog

FINALLY! Subsequently so many, many months of waiting, surfer girls, nosotros're going MAC To The Beach! — It's a warm beach…and nosotros're walking forth the shore, picking up sea shells, pretty pieces of coral, and starfishes similar the ones that grace the limited edition packaging.

If I close my optics and picture the succulent greens and corals in the drove, I feel relaxed and happy; if I heed hard enough and jiff deeply, I can almost hear waves breaking and odour the salty air. 🙂

MAC To The Embankment crashes onto North American counters May 27, just a handful of US and Canadian MAC stores will be hosting pre-release parties on May 18. To see if there'south a pre-release party in your area, give your local MAC store or counter a quick call.

Wrap it upward!

Tin can I simply take a second to marvel at the packaging? Nosotros're talking '70s, but in the best possible way.

The house I grew up in was built in the '70s, and I remember some of these aforementioned colors (LOL!). Our kitchen walls were the exact same shade of pea green! Our countertops, the refrigerator, the dishes, and my mom's treasured Pyrex mixing bowls were also in colors very much like the shades in To The Beach.

Well, they say everything old is new again, and I guess they're right! 🙂 But coming across these shades in a West Elm or Pottery Befouled would have been one thing; seeing them on a cosmetics counter is something else entirely. Way to get, MAC, for always pushing beauty forward, even when you're looking back. Fusing the '70s with an ocean theme? I mean, who does that?

MAC To The Beach: Reviews

I hope this wait at 17 of the 31 pieces from the collection helps y'all figure out what to put on your wish list. 🙂

Face up and body

MAC To The Beach Cream Bronzer in Weekend ($25): Weekend, a deep orangey brown with pinkish pearl, is one of 2 Cream Bronzers in the collection (the second, Beach Bronze, is a golden bronze). The texture reminds me of MAC'due south cream blushes — thick, but creamy, and hands blendable.

Weekend may not exude sexual activity in the pan, just that's because it'due south waiting for someone to love. I retrieve the pinkish pearl really shows through on my NC35 skin. I like it, and I can't remember seeing another bronzer quite like it before (most have more gilded shimmer than pink). If yous take a warm skin tone and feel y'all wearable orangey browns well (like MAC Soft Dark-brown Matte or Saddle Eyeshadows), then you lot might wait forward to this Weekend.

Refined Golden Bronzing Powder ($22): Part of the permanent collection, Refined Golden is one of two bronzing powders in the collection, only MAC dressed it upwardly here in special beach attire. Similar Weekend, it'southward also warm shade, in this case a buttery orange-toned brown, but I think it's a little less orangish, and has more of a golden shimmer than one a pinkish pearl.

I've played with Refined Gold earlier and recollect it'southward neat for contouring. It but looks then natural on the peel, despite how mesomorphic it looks in the pan.

Lustre Drops in Sun Rush ($18.50): The Lustre Drops remind me of Benefit's liquid highlighters merely have a thinner texture and give off a far quieter glow. Sun Rush, a peachy bronze with golden pearl, is one of two Lustre Drops in MAC To The Embankment (the other being Pinkish Rebel, a blueish pink with gilt pearl). I really similar the applicator… Information technology'south thin and pointed, which makes it a cinch to control and cuts down on waste. OOH! I'one thousand gonna try adding this to lotions and foundations and dabbing dots on specific places for a hint of subtle shimmer.

MAC To the Beach Statuary Torso Oil ($22): Talk about super pigmented glittery goodness! This is the body oil you'd make it the souvenir bag at a drag queen convention. WOW! I like how sparse the oil is, too, because it doesn't take much effort to rub in, nor does information technology feel greasy or heavy on my skin.

Cheeks

Powder Blush in Hipness and Get-Away Statuary ($eighteen.50 each): Both Hipness, (a coral with soft white pearl) and Get Away Bronze (a frosty orangey bronze) take fiddling starfishes on their compacts, aww! Go-Abroad Statuary has a frosty finish that seems to highlight large pores and imperfections on my skin. I probably won't use information technology when my skin's in less-than-not bad shape.

Now, Hipness, you lot may call up from MAC Fafi. Information technology's some other repromote in the collection — a trivial frosty, simply nowhere most as frosty as Get Away Statuary. I recollect it'southward quite sheer and subtle, and consequently more clothing.

Optics

Eyeshadow in Sand & Dominicus ($14.50): This sheer light peach matte doesn't advertise itself well on my NC 35 skin. I can hardly see information technology at all, just I bet it'southward really pretty on lighter pare tones.

Eyeshadow in Firecracker ($14.50): Firecracker's a fiddling scrap more than pigmented than Sand & Sun. MAC describes it as a blood-red orange, but I think information technology looks straight upwards shimmery coral to me. I like the way this shimmer glows without screaming, "I'M IN YOUR FACE!"

Eyeshadow in Sweetness & Punchy ($fourteen.50): Umm… wow? Sugariness & Punchy applies with super intense paint, frosty shimmer and a soft texture.

Eyeshadow in Humid ($xiv.50): Another member of Team MAC (the permanent collection), Boiling's an intense, shimmery forest green with the aforementioned soft texture Sweet & Punchy has.

Centre Kohl in Float on Past ($14.50): I call back dark dark-green turquoise Float on Past is sooo gorgeous. The color shimmers and dances in the low-cal, flashing from blue to green. LOVE THIS!

Eye Kohl in Rosemary & Thyme ($fourteen.l): MAC describes information technology equally a shimmery mid-tone golden olive. It may not pack as much pigment equally Float on Past, simply information technology certain looks pretty on the skin. I can't await to encounter it paired with MAC Powersurge…

Lips

Lipstick in Beachbound ($14): This sheer frosted pale peach looks virtually transparent and feels ultra-lightweight. It has "layering color" written all over it, perhaps popped on superlative of the lip pencils.

Beachbound

Wearing Beachbound

Lipstick in Funbathing ($xiv): Funbathing ramps upwards the the lip pigmenation a bit. It's a mid-tone bronze plum with medium-to-total pigmentation and a slick, shine texture. I think you lot go better coverage with this bad male child…and Funbathing? Great name. 🙂

Lipglass in Easy Lounger ($14): This calorie-free baby pinkish color with multi-dimensional pearl looks almost clear on my pigmented lips; information technology's mostly just shimmer.

Lip Pencil in Temperature Rise Lip Pencil ($13): Hard at kickoff, but in one case you warm up this bright orange pencil, it feels nice and creamy.

Lip Pencil in Life'south a Breeze ($xiii): This neutral pink doesn't as as pigmented to equally Temperature Rising, and I actually had to build it in layers for the color to show.

Nails

Nail Lacquer in Scorcher ($12): How fun is this? I of two nail lacquers in the collection, Scorcher's a bright creamy coral red that feels kinda Mad Men to me (I like information technology a lot!). The first glaze applies a lilliputian streaky, but two coats delivers nearly perfect opacity.

MAC describes the other shine, In the Buff, as a muted avocado, but to me it looks a trivial bit infant poo…

Your thoughts?

mac to the beach

I dig that MAC went To The Embankment this year. They took chances once more on the packaging, and the greens, corals and pinks are definitely getting me in the mood for the summer. I still need to play with the shades to come across how they work together, just so far the color story seems to make sense.
